Development of bio-based plastics and recycled plastics

Your challenge: Optimizing plastic products for the circular economy

Anyone who manufactures, uses or sells plastics or functional additives for plastics, adhesives and lubricants faces a number of challenges: The aim is to reduce plastic pollution in oceans and on land, reduce dependence on fossil resources and minimize CO2 emissions during production. This development is reinforced by national and international regulatory requirements that already exist or are in the pipeline. But how can plastic products be made more sustainable? Are recycling, bio-based or biodegradable plastics solutions for your problem? And how can the value chain develop towards a circular economy?

Our solution: Rethinking plastic products in a new and sustainable way

From polymerization to the production of sample quantities on an industrial tonne scale with accompanying material characterization: we offer you plastics expertise along the entire valuechain and optimize your films, fibres, filaments and injection-moulded parts based on your requirements or those of your customers. We provide new impulses for your material development, carry out neutral evaluations and make your plastic-based products fit for circular value creation. Specifically, we provide support with

  • physical and chemical functionalization and modification of polymers through blending, additivation, reactive modification and fiber reinforcement
  • the development and production of functional additives
  • a holistic utilization of the material plastic and its application
  • the evaluation of total costs, raw material availability, processing, utilization and recycling

The development of new plastics often ends in the laboratory and promising results cannot be confirmed in practice due to a lack of material. We close this gap and offer you a compounding pilot plant to provide sample quantities on an industrial scale for your real-life trials. With accompanying material characterization and material testing, we can offer everything from a single source for your problem.

Your benefits:

  • Neutral, manufacturer-independent material development
  • One contact person from the laboratory to the real test on a ton scale on your plant
  • In-house material testing technology from a single source
  • Thinking outside the box: We translate and communicate with a view to the plastics value chain and accompany you on the way to rethinking the use of plastics in your products.

How you work with us

The classic way of working with us: You commission us directly with a research and development service. We look at your problem together and work out a specific and needs-oriented plan for your plastics-related challenge. We combine scientific research and evaluation methods with practical test series and accompanying testing technology. In this way, we enable sound and efficient material development for your problem. It makes no difference to us whether you are a distributor of plastic products, a manufacturer of compounds or a retail chain that wants to have the packaging of your own brands tested.

A look at our projects

MoNova

Making plastic packaging recyclable

Mono-material films are needed to make plastic packaging recyclable. With them, important product properties of the packaging are retained, which also enable demanding industries to use materials sparingly.

PHAt

Natural thickeners for degradable lubricants

With the development of natural thickeners and binders, it should be possible in future to use new bio-based and biodegradable raw materials in lubricants that protect particularly environmentally sensitive areas from conventional non-degradable lubricants.

Bioshoreline

Biodegradable geotextiles for bank protection

As part of the joint research project "Bioshoreline", new types of biodegradable geotextiles made from renewable raw materials are being developed for use in future-oriented, environmentally friendly bank protection on waterways.
