Prof. Christian Doetsch (born 1969) holds a PhD in chemical engineering and has been working in energy research for more than 25 years. He specializes in energy storage, power-to-X technologies including electrolysis hydrogen and chemical conversion into valuable materials, catalysts and the modeling and optimization of energy systems. His key objective is the integration of renewable energies into a cross-sectoral, resilient energy system.
Doetsch holds the chair for "Cross Energy Systems" at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Ruhr University Bochum. In his courses, he combines technological research with a systemic view and an economic perspective.
Doetsch has been employed at Fraunhofer UMSICHT in various functions since 1995 and headed the energy division with 145 employees and a budget of about 10.4 million euros until he took over the management of the institute in August 2022.
