System integration

Carbon2Chem® Teilprojekt 0

The aim of the Carbon2Chem® project is to use metallurgical gases from steel production as a starting material for chemical products – including the CO2 they contain. Electricity from renewable energies should be used for this. An essential contribution should be thus made to climate protection and the success of the energy transition.

Importing and analyzing models on independent simulation platforms.

Tasks

Process and plant simulation takes place in subproject L0. It enables the interaction of different industrial plants in a plant network to be described as a cross-industrial network and their dynamic system behavior to be analyzed. The state of scientific knowledge and the available information and models of the relevant sub-processes are determined and further developed for this purpose. Uniform interfaces and transfer points of the submodels are defined to simulate the overall model. This allows models to be imported and analyzed on independent simulation platforms.

Aims

The aim of the L0 subproject system integration is to establish the prerequisites for the parallel development of technologies and subprocesses in the subprojects L1 to L6 and to use them optimally in the integrated steelworking network later on. Besides the evaluation and selection of the sub-processes, the preliminary investigations and simulations for system integration in the metallurgical group also help to provide decision-making support for the technical and economic optimization of the current processes under varying internal and external parameters. To do this, a system analysis is carried out, in which it is ascertained which systemic advantages are offered by flexibly operated systems. In addition, the regional potential for the use of fluctuating renewable energies is determined, taking into account the factors of generation, consumption, and grid utilization. Not only is the status quo of the feed-in data for renewable energies used as a database, but the increasing share of renewable energies in a changing generation portfolio and the future added value for society are also taken into account.
